Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26 1926 - 18 October 1999) was an American singer and actress whose career spanned more than 40 years. A torch-singer renowned for her powerful, languid, sultry contralto voice, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between 1955 and 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was the recording of "Cry Me a River" the song she first introduced on her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her performance in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's career in acting lasted 35 years. It began in 1944 , with roles in movies. These included roles as the lead female character in numerous westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-50s she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. Her final studio album in 1969, but continued to have success as the lead female character of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) and co-starred alongside Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
